Knitting

Knitting may seem so..OLD fashioned to many people. Some might even think of it as boring. Some think only GRANDMAS knit well that is NOT always the case.

Knitting is like a way for people to express themselves, to express their individuality and their creativeness. It is a craft that uses not only your creativity but also hones your mathematics skills and your logic (you will understand how when you take up knitting) too. Knitting has been integrated throughout time and in the aspects of our life. People knit jackets, hats, clothes, cloves.... and such.

Knitting is also something that requires skill, patience, a willingness to learn and the heart to say to himself/herself that: YES, i CAN do it!. Knitting is NOT only for grandmas, also grandpas, teenagers, young adults, moms, dads....can knit, all it takes is a little inspiration and you are of to a great knitting adventure.

For someone my age, knitting is not something normal. But who's to say everyone is normal? Everyone is unique, we are all given different abilities and talents, mine just happens to seem like that of a grandmother's. I have only started knitting 2 weeks ago but i have learned so much. Like the different kinds of yarns, hooks, needles, gauge, and many more. In every venture i do, i always push myself to be better, to do what others will think is not possible for someone of my age, for things that i think and know both in my mind and in my heart that i will love and will never forget. Knitting has also been an outlet for me to release my anger or when i am bored it's such a great thing to do because you will create wonderful stuff and the best part is that YOU made it!

I currently take up some knitting classes and one thing is for sure, i have met so many great and wonderful people there! i have gotten to know people of different races and of different ages too. Yesterday i got to meet to very, might i say FIESTY grandmas! well they weren't really grandmas, they were still like kids at heart. They love to play Wii games too. I have also met people with super cool accents: italian, spanish, mexican... The first friend i made there is just a decade older than me and she is so fun to talk to.

At the moment i am knitting a JACKET. Yup, you read correctly a jacket, i am making it with stripes so that i will have more challenge in creating it. Even if i had to undo it a lot of times because i have made several mistakes, it's alright for me because i learn from my mistakes. Many people think that i cannot knit a jacket simply because i am too young and i am so inexperienced with knitting but look at reality! i am nearly done with the jacket and even if some stitches i have made aren't perfect, its ok for me because i did it, i persevered in doing it. Hopefully i can finish it by the end of this week to show the world what patience and hard work can do.

For all the kids out there i CHALLENGE you to find a NEW craft! something that you have not yet tried, but you have been dying to find out how it's done, and DO it. It might just surprise you how inspiration, and willingness can help you excel at that craft.

*Some crafts you might want to try: Hardanger, cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, sewing, embroidery or you can go to your local craft stores, browse and maybe something might catch your eye =]*
